Sometimes you just want to glam up, am I right? For me, it is so fun to create different looks, from shoes to hair and makeup. Even on days where I don’t look like this, there are definitely little things I like to do daily to keep me feeling glam inside and out.

As I mentioned in my last post, I am in the process of healing from a second jaw surgery, and while I am a firm believer in the power of positivity, I realize that for some days or situations, remaining positive can seem pretty difficult.


While everyone is different, I thought today I would share five things that help me harness that inner goddess we all have, every day.

My first tip is to treat fragrance like another accessory.  I like to switch up my fragrances from woody to sweet or floral to citrus and I think it is important to have different scents for different moods.  For an outfit like this, I love to mix up deeper spicier scent like Tom Ford’s Noir Pour Femme (here).

*Let me add in that roller-ball versions are a great, budget friendly way to collect multiple scents. Not only are they travel friendly, but also cheaper and easier to reapply.  Sephora is a great place to find roller-balls as well as fragrance gift sets.


Continuing with scent, this next tip is super important to me.  I’m talking fresh breath people! When my breath is fresh, I feel more confident when talking to others and I don’t shy away from face time.  My personal favorite is Trident’s Cinnamon gum. Whether I’m trying to hide that morning coffee breath or livening up stale breath, I always carry a pack (or two) in my bag. Having taken Fragrance Lab classes at FIT, I learned that scent is the strongest sense tied to memory. So much like body fragrance, I think that people really remember fresh breath or not.


If you want to guess my third tip, just look at my blog name. That’s right, lip color!  Whether it’s a clear coat of chapstick or a bright red pout, lips are such an important part of feeling confident to me. Like I said in the beginning of this post, there are definitely days where I don’t want to move from bed and these days I’m definitely not thinking about a red hot lip color. That’s why I always carry at least three different colors in my bag at any given time. Hey, moods change and so can your lip color.

Going through different surgeries where my face swells and compresses has wreaked havoc on my lips, but I swear by Sugar Advanced Lip Therapy by FRESH. If this magical tube can revive even the most swollen, stretched, stitched and scabbed lips like mine it will work wonders on your pouts. And remember, choosing a lip color is like painting; it’s always best to give your color a smooth clean canvas to sit on.


Now if you know me at all, you know that this fourth tip is something that although not done daily, is most definitely done once a week.  Let’s talk mani pedi’s! To me this is almost a sacred weekly habit of mine that I refuse to skip! Now, I know that this habit can add up financially, but I can guarantee that any drugstore you walk into has a huge selection of colors that you can choose from and DIY! Chipped, dirty or uneven nails make a huge first impression when you meet people (think handshakes). But to me, I leave the nail salon every week feeling cleaner, neater and just more zen. If I add glitter or nail art that week, then I Beyonce strut myself out of there.

It is also important to remember that when choosing a nail salon that sometimes it’s better to pay more for quality, and I’m not just talking about the actual paint job. Cleanliness in a salon is very important. Make sure that your nail technician cleans and sterilizes all the tools they use on you. Also be courteous on your end, and never get a pedicure if you have open wounds, blisters or skin infections. Not only could you make it worse for yourself but also for others that have to sit in your chair after you. I have heard first hand many horror stories of girls who more than ‘paid’ for their cheap manicures in infections from a salon.


Last and probably my favorite tip has got to do with underwear.  For me, wearing clean, sexy, matching underwear under any outfit I wear is so important to me. Now, I’m not saying you should only leave the house in push up bras and lingerie, I’m simply saying there is no reason to walk around with holes or stretched out designs on your underthings.  For me, while I recover, I force myself to shower everyday, and not slip into faded, frayed or ill fitting undies.

Let me emphasis this next point, in no way do I wear sexy underwear because I care if anyone sees, but that I can carry an added confidence knowing how good I look and feel. Talking fashion,  underwear is also super important in enhancing your overall outfit. Bad fitting under things can definitely effect and enhance the way your clothes wear. I love no-show undies when I wear something body hugging, but I also love long lacy overexposed bras paired with a white tee or low cut top.


Whatever tips work for you, I think its important to take a little time for yourself every morning to start your day feeling your very best.
